FAQs
Who runs Green Oak Theatre?
Green Oak was established by Shaylie Maskell and Caleb Wells, with the assistance and support of many other creative artists.
Each production is run by a collection of passionate volunteers who lend their times and skills to the company.
Shaylie is Green Oak’s Creative Producer and Director, and Elliot Cleaves is Assistant Creative Director.
Why ‘Green Oak’ Theatre?
The Oak Tree is a Celtic symbol of life, strength, and connection to people and place. Starting as a small acorn, the oak grows tall and broad, its branches providing food, shelter and tools for survival. It's shade allows people to come together, share stories and create. From little things big things grow!
Where do your costumes, sets and props come from?
In 2020 we bought most of our set pieces new for our first production, and have reused most pieces for subsequent shows. We have also inherited items second hand, borrowed from other companies and have only bought a few new pieces when needed. For each show we reuse costumes and costumes, obtain new pieces from op-shops, make garments or objects ourselves or ask cast to provide pieces. Green Oak strives to reduce our environmental footprint where possible and we focus on reusing items where possible to reduce waste.
Can I hire/borrow costume, prop or set pieces?
Yes! Please contact greenoaktheatre@gmail.com if you would like to use any of our items. Depending on the occasion, we are happy to lend things out for free or for a small hiring cost.
How can I be a part of a Green Oak show?
Follow us on social media and keep an eye on our website for what’s happening. In a typical year we will put on a large production (play/musical) which welcomes auditionees, and also a small Cabaret, which anyone can apply to be a part of.
I want to be involved, but not onstage. Are there any opportunities for me?
Yes! We always love hearing from people who want to get involved in our productions, whether they have experience or not. We’re always on the lookout for tech operators, backstage crew, costume designers and photographers/filmers/social media gurus to get involved in our shows. If you’d like to know more or want to get involved, email greenoaktheatre@gmail.com.
NOTE: roles in Green Oak Theatre are unpaid.
